Trail Crew Member

  • Organization: Wood River Trails Coalition, U.S. Forest Service
  • Location: Hailey, ID
  • Date: April 2026 - October 2026
  • Overview: A six-month seasonal trail crew member position, funded by the WRTC and reporting to the US Forest Service Ketchum Ranger District. We were a mostly-front-country crew maintaining trails in the Wood River Valley. We also worked several backcountry camping hitches in the summer.
Details:
  • Utilizes chainsaws and handsaws for brushing and bucking logs and hangups in the trail corridor
  • Maintains tread and drainage using picks, shovels, and hoes
  • Services chainsaws and hand tools and reports inventory needs
  • Operates company trucks and mountain bikes
  • Hikes up to 10 miles per day to perform trail maintenance
  • Project work includes rock retainers, bridge construction, and drainage features
  • Uses ArgGIS Field Maps to document and locate trail maintenance needs
  • Assists with volunteer trail work events

Volunteer Trail and Habitat Restoration Crew Member

  • Organization: San Dieguito River Park, San Diego River Park Foundation
  • Location: San Diego County, CA
  • Date: October 2025 - April 2026
  • Overview: Volunteer trail and habitat restoration work with multiple organizations in San Diego County.
Details:
  • Operates shovels, McLeods, picks, loppers, and hand saws to brush trail corridor and maintain tread
  • Identifies and manually removes invasive species
  • Assists with fencing and rockwork projects
  • Hauls rocks, soil, and trash under direction of rangers and staff
  • Co-leads nature preserve hikes and riparian trash removal events
